Why New York?
New York is one of the special places in the world today where successful innovation - in products, services and ideas – can reach the public quickly and effectively. It is said that the best of the best often originate in New York because the city demands excellence, whether you are making bagels, bond deals or biotechnical breakthroughs. Notwithstanding certain technical and resource limitations, New York is well suited to lead the world in sustainability as a city of over 8 million people from all corners of the world, living in close quarters and relying on each other for limited resources.
When New Yorkers decide to change the way we live and the things we do – whether it be in food, fashion, music, society, business, design, or even the way we communicate – the world takes notice. NYCSE will add to the sustainability debate through the City’s uniquely large and diverse audience to broaden the public’s thinking on sustainable energy.
What next?
NYCSE’s immediate goal is to expand into each of the remaining five boroughs of New York City with its containerized, modular educational centers. Within our beautiful parks and at highly visible locations throughout the City, NYCSE will have the opportunity to reach and inform a broad group of participants interested in sustainable energy.
As NYCSE grows and moves its headquarters to a permanent home, the educational centers will continue to provide outreach, programming and hands-on learning and training experiences in sustainable energy. Over time, the educational centers will also become invaluable tools for providing feedback and informing NYCSE of directional changes in the public’s thinking on sustainable energy initiatives.
Where to?
We believe our mission is best begun right here in New York City, a microcosm of the world in one urban setting, and then expanded outwards. NYCSE seeks to engage with like-minded partners in sustainability education and research. We foresee teaming with schools and other institutions with goals similar to NYCSE’s throughout the US and abroad as we expand. Looking at the big picture, we hope to inform various organizations around the globe on sustainable energy issues through our expertise and insights gained at NYCSE programs and events held here throughout the year.
And to think it all started in a few shipping containers on the Brooklyn waterfront!
